Week 4-Assignment 2
The article The Future of Education is in Two Languages was a very interesting read. In the article, Fabice talks about three objectives leaning towards bilingualism. The first objective is to espouse cultures specific to families and linguistic communities and promote this cultural heritage as an important part of the mosaic of society. The second objective is to help facilitate reconciliation between parents and schools and encourage a fruitful dialogue between parents, school administrators, and educational professions. The third and final objective is to promote a social, economic, and cultural environment that is respectful of all and helps to bridge the gulfs that divide us today. These objectives and very important and it needs more attention when it comes to bilingual education.
"Bilingual education means different things to different people. Some want access to English and the equal opportunity it provides. Others want to sustain their heritage and utilize bilingual education as a tool to do so"(Jaumont,2018). I agree with this because bilingual education is different in many ways. There are many advantages to being able to speak two languages. For example, it's a great fact to put on your resume. If you're at a job interview and you have "being bilingual" on your resume, I think it. would be a big advantage to getting the job your applying for. Also, being able to speak two languages is cool because you can have conversations with people who speak whatever language the person is bilingual in. Another reason why it's a big advantage to being bilingual is that its easy for when people travel. If someone is having trouble understanding someone and the person that speaks their language, it could be easy or difficult to translate for them. I just think that being bilingual is awesome because you can do so much with it.
